Recruitment

Early years / EYFS lead interview questions FAQs

What should an early years lead interview cover?

The EYFS statutory framework and safeguarding/welfare requirements, communication and language, high-quality continuous and outdoor provision, assessment without over-documenting, and strong parent partnership.

What makes a strong EYFS leadership candidate?

A clear child-development philosophy held alongside framework knowledge, the ability to develop practitioners, and a track record of narrowing gaps for disadvantaged children before they leave the phase.

How should a panel use these questions fairly?

Choose questions relevant to the published role and agree what evidence you will assess before interviewing. Use a consistent core set, make appropriate adjustments, and record evidence rather than rewarding a rehearsed style. These prompts support your recruitment process; they do not replace required checks.
