  1. Question 9Practised

What's a leadership mistake you've made, and what did you change as a result?

    What a strong answer shows

Reflectiveness, accountability, and evidence of growth rather than a rehearsed answer.

Vision

1 panel question

  1. Question 10Practised

Why this school, and what would you want to contribute in your first year as AHT?

How is an AHT interview different from deputy head?

AHT interviews often focus more on operational leadership, quality of teaching, behaviour, and how the candidate supports middle leaders day to day.

How should a panel use these questions fairly?

Choose questions relevant to the published role and agree what evidence you will assess before interviewing. Use a consistent core set, make appropriate adjustments, and record evidence rather than rewarding a rehearsed style.
