Single Central Record Checklist, September 2026 edition (KCSIE 2026)

Detailed overview

What the single central record must hold under Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026 (paragraphs 347 to 357), who must be on it, and a termly audit sheet you can show governors. Designed to be run in about an hour with your office manager.

September 2026 edition. Checked against KCSIE 2026 on 6 September 2026. It replaces our September 2024 and September 2025 checklists.

The main change for 2026 is who needs an enhanced DBS check with barred list information. The supervision exemption has been removed, so volunteers who teach, train, instruct or supervise children on more than three days in a 30-day period, or overnight, are now in regulated activity (paragraphs 383 to 386). The checklist shows what that means for your record.
