A practical, editable checklist for planning and running parents' evenings, written by school leaders for school leaders.
It takes you from two weeks before (dates, booking, interpreters, a fixed finish time for staff) through the week before (court orders and contact restrictions checked with your DSL, room layout, families where a conversation may be difficult) to the evening itself and the follow-up in the week after. There's a section on what to say when a conversation turns difficult, when to end it, and how to restrict access afterwards if behaviour continues, based on the DfE's guidance on controlling access to school premises.
References are listed at the end of the document and were checked on 30 September 2026, including KCSIE 2026.
Editable Microsoft Word document. General guidance for schools in England, not legal advice.
