Resource details

A four-phase induction checklist that takes new staff, leaders and regular volunteers from pre-arrival checks to their three and six-month safeguarding reviews, with KCSIE 2026 paragraph references throughout.

KCSIE 2026 edition. It replaces our KCSIE 2025 induction checklist and includes the 2026 changes: all staff now read Part one in full, regular volunteers are checked against the new regulated activity rules, no one starts in an EYFS setting before their enhanced DBS certificate arrives, and the new terminology for the making or sharing of nudes or semi-nudes.

What's inside

  • Phase 1, pre-arrival and day 1: safer recruitment and single central record checks
  • Core policies and statutory reading to hand over on day 1
  • Phase 2, week 1: key people and contacts, and immediate safeguarding responsibilities
  • Phase 3, first month: induction training, online safety, Prevent, child-on-child abuse, contextual harms and premises
  • Phase 4, months 3 to 6: check-ins and an ongoing culture of vigilance
  • A sign-off sheet for the new starter and their induction lead

Format: editable Word document.

Useful for: headteachers, DSLs, school business leaders and anyone who runs induction for new staff and volunteers.
