A pocket guide to using AI tools to draft school improvement and implementation plans, by educational consultant, former headteacher and trust CEO Jill Foster.
The book's own description says Jill developed an "AI blueprint" to cut the time spent writing plans, and that she guides readers step by step in using AI as a planning assistant to produce evidence-based plans. It is written for school and subject leaders rather than for technical readers.
Who it is for
Headteachers, senior leaders and subject leaders who write a school improvement plan or subject action plan and want a structured way to use an AI tool for the first draft. The plan, and the judgements in it, still have to come from the school's own evidence.
"This pocket guide beautifully merges an accessible introduction to the use of AI in implementation planning for the educational sector. Harnessing the current research-based formats, saving time whilst developing sharp strategic plans." - Principal Deborah Eyvbowho Secker.
What do we think?
Well this book couldn't have come at a better time! We get asked a lot by school leaders about how AI can help them, and this book does exactly that! Packed with lots of useful tips and resources for how AI can help, but also, which AI system to use.
Before you use AI for planning
The Department for Education's guidance on generative AI in education applies to this kind of work in England. In short:
- It recommends that personal data is not put into generative AI tools, so leave pupil, staff and family details out of prompts.
- Anything an AI tool produces needs critical judgement to check it is accurate and appropriate.
- The finished plan remains the responsibility of the professional who wrote it and of the school or trust, not the tool.
- Pupils' and staff's original work must not be used to train AI models without permission.
If a tool will process personal data, the school's data protection lead should check it first (see the DfE's data protection in schools guidance).
