Rethink Maths

Rethink Maths helps schools strengthen mathematics teaching, intervention and early years provision through evidence-informed resources, professional development and implementation support. Founded by experienced mathematics education specialists, Rethink Maths combines deep subject knowledge with practical classroom experience. Its team has developed curriculum resources used by thousands of schools, supported government-funded programmes, delivered education projects in the UK and internationally, and worked directly with schools and multi-academy trusts. Its current work focuses on two key areas: targeted intervention for pupils in Key Stages 2 and 3, and strong mathematical foundations in the early years. Groundwork Maths is a structured intervention programme for pupils who need additional support to secure essential mathematical knowledge. Aligned with the Ready-to-Progress criteria, it uses diagnostic assessment to identify gaps before providing carefully sequenced teaching materials, professional development and practical implementation support. Rethink Maths also develops and evaluates innovative early years mathematics programmes designed to build strong number sense and deep mathematical understanding. Its early years work is being trialled nationally through funding from The Richmond Project. Across all its programmes, Rethink Maths aims to improve pupil confidence and outcomes while reducing workload for teachers.
